Bruce Bentley, CPA
Principal and Partner Emeritus

Bruce has over 40 years of experience and is the founding partner of Bentley & Associates, P.C. in 1977 before it became what is now Bentley, Bratcher & Associates, P.C. in 2005. Currently, Bruce serves as a principal at the firm with a concentration in tax, retirement benefit plans, and financial planning.

Bruce received his BBA in Accounting at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and his MBA at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Bruce is a licensed CPA in the states of Texas and Louisiana and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants, and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants.


Cecil Ellis, CPA

Cecil is a principal within the firm who has 40 years of experience of accounting and tax experience which includes 5 years of chairmanship of the accounting department at The University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas. He has in-depth experience in auditing privately held companies in the manufacturing, construction and wholesale/retail businesses. The understanding of the diverse needs of closely held family businesses has been an extensive amount of his management consultation during years of practice.

He has earned B.B.A. and M.S. degrees from major universities and a wealth of experience in assisting clients with their financial reporting and tax compliance needs for maintenance of banking credit lines, bonding and Federal/State filing requirements.

Cecil is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Houston Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs.


V. Melvin Key, CPA

Melvin is a principal with BBA with over 40 years of public accounting experience in tax, accounting, auditing and business advisory. He specializes in consulting and tax planning for closely-held business and owners. Melvin has advised clients in such areas as the structuring of business organizations, the purchase or sale of a business, corporate and partnership taxation and income tax and administration of estates and trusts. He is experienced in understanding the diverse needs of non profit organizations and Unions including audits and governmental compliance.

Melvin received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Houston and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

John R. Madsen, CPA, is a principal with BBA with over 35 years of experience.  John enjoys helping small and medium sized businesses minimize their tax burden as well as assisting them with their auditing and accounting needs.  Prior to joining BBA John worked for ten years as Vice President and Controller for the real estate subsidiary of American General Corporation, as Controller of Weekley Homes as well as five years in “Big Eight” accounting with Touche Ross and Ernst & Whinney.  He has broad experience in many facets of the real estate industry dealing extensively with projects such as Cinco Ranch and Greatwood.  He currently is serving as the Treasurer of the Greater Houston Builders Association and is also a member of the American Institute of Public Accountants.  John is a 1977 graduate of the University of Texas.
